Taste Test: Loverboy

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a lifelong Bravo-holic, and my passion for the network extends beyond The Real Housewives franchise. One of my favorite non-Housewives shows is Summer House, a series that follows the “work hard, play harder” lifestyle of 20- and 30-somethings in New York.

From Fboy to Loverboy, we’ve watched cast member Kyle Cooke ebb and flow through his business endeavors and personal relationship with fellow cast member Amanda Batula. Fans got to watch firsthand as one of Kyle’s business ventures became a reality in season four.

About Loverboy

Loverboy is a brand of canned sparkling hard teas and cocktails. In an interview with Boston.com, Kyle explained that Loverboy started as an alternative for Twisted Tea, another hard tea product. Kyle, along with his now wife Amanda and castmate/friend Carl Radke, launched Loverboy in 2020.

Unlike Twisted Tea, Loverboy’s sparkling hard teas are only 90 calories and naturally sweetened. As someone who chugged entirely too many Twisted Teas in college, I’ve been searching for a replacement that didn’t make me sick at the end of the night. I was beyond excited to crack a can of Loverboy when I saw the product at my local Kroger. I packed a few cans in my beach bag, and now I have a review for you.

Loverboy Review

All of Loverboy’s sparkling hard teas are 4.2% ABV. As someone who likes to imbibe a strong cocktail, these are a little low for me. For reference, White Claw hard seltzer is 5% ABV. Where Loverboy wins is the flavor. I typically avoid hard seltzers because they just taste like static, but you actually get some depth with Loverboy.

I wouldn’t turn to Loverboy if I was trying to get lit, but it’s the perfect casual sipper—highly recommended for a beach or pool day. Actually, I cracked a can to write this post and still feel like I can go about my day once I finish.

Loverboy recently made its way to Virginia, so I’m hoping we get some more flavors soon. When I try more of Loverboy’s offerings, I’ll update this section of the blog post.

White Tea Peach Review

I drink a lot of teas, so Loverboy delivered for me on the light, refreshing white tea flavor. Since Loverboy has 0g of sugar, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtly sweet finish. The White Tea Peach is “kissed with lavender” so it does offer slightly floral notes, along with some acidity.
