Chef Skip 757 in Virginia Beach

I’ve been working at my job for three years now. In that time, I’ve nearly run the gamut of nearby restaurants for lunch. Searching for something new, I realized that I was less than 10 miles from delicious, deep-fried dining.

Chef Skip 757, a food truck turned brick and mortar in Virginia Beach, has been all over my social media feed for a while now. I’ve been envious of my foodie friends who posts pictures of Chef Skip’s crab cakes, fried seafood, po’ boys and more, often garnished with a vibrant flower.

Due to COVID-19, Chef Skip was only offering takeout from his restaurant. I placed my order online to avoid a potential wait, and I’m glad I did because there were plenty of other people patiently waiting in their cars to pick up their lunches. Chef Skip has a variety of seafood offerings, as well as cheesesteaks and chicken wings. I went with the Fish and Shrimp platter—four jumbo fried shrimp and a large piece of fried fish served on top of fries.

I’ve been on the hunt for a place to get a good piece of fried fish in Virginia Beach. Typically, I’d have to wait for Dula’s Fish on the Fly food truck to set up shop near work. Chef Skip’s fried fish has filled that void for me. The large piece of whitefish extended the diagonal length of the box. Soulfully seasoned and golden fried, the fish remained moist and flaky on the inside. That same fry was used on the jumbo shrimp as well. My platter came with a side of Chef Skip’s sauce—a tangy mix of remoulade and what I would guess is some kind of sweet chili sauce offering just enough heat—but because I’m greedy, I ordered two. I dunked each plump fried shrimp in the sauce before taking a big bite. I reserved what was left of my sauce for the French fries resting under the seafood.

Diners also laud Chef Skip’s crab cake sandwich, shrimp tacos and shrimp po’ boys. I haven’t decided what I’ll try next from Chef Skip, but whatever it is, I know I’ll be full for the rest of the day.

Chef Skip is located at 1591 Dahlia Drive, Suite 105, Virginia Beach.
